Author, Researcher, Artist, Technical Tutor
Having studied for my BA in Contemporary Photography, Masters in Visual Communication along with PGCE in Creative Education at UCA in Rochester & Canterbury, which led to me becoming a technical tutor at UCA, allowing me to work across a wide range of disciplines and mediums, along with a broad and diverse range of students.
I try to adopt a polymathic approach to teaching, which is heavily based on the practical facilitation of studio work for students, where inclusive pedagogies and equality are central to my delivery styles.
I am committed to an ethos of lifelong learning and access for all. I am passionate about inclusion and widening participation. I have a vast knowledge of neurodiversity and have worked with a range of students with learning difficulties/disabilities (LDDs), supporting curriculum development and assessment.
I have recently undertaken my Master’s in Visual Communication, and for this, I used dyslexia as a basis for a research project around how to show what it is like to have dyslexia. This was undertaken by conducting a small online survey to gather descriptions of what text looks like when different people are reading. This has then been interpreted into visual responses to show what dyslexia is like for non-dyslexics.
Whilst studying for my master’s, I got very interested in printing techniques, namely letterpress printing. The traditional presses used for this are very heavy and difficult to use with mobility issues. This led to me developing and prototyping my first mini press; this is something I am currently delivering and testing further.
